Why are we doing it?
To Benefit Rescue Horses of the Klamath Basin
Klamath Animal Shelter Large Animal Division has been involved with horse rescue and rehabilitation for almost 20 years. We rely on Project Spirit Equine Rescue & Rehab for training programs such as this. The objective is to help horses in need, rehabilitate them, provide them with the skillset to allow them to become active equines, and find them acceptable homes via adoption. The challenge of placing rescue horses is that most are either untrained or have been mistreated and lost trust in humans.
The key to making a rescue horse back into a viable animal is, once recuperated, to provide training that considers their unfortunate past, teach them to trust again, and to re-think their relationship with humans.
The Pegasus Project is an event that allows rescue horses to be trained by professionals, presenting an event that showcases the horses and trainer, and finally provides an activity to allow the public watch the performance, pick their favorite horse(s), bid on them, and take them into an approved home. We showcase trainers and horses in the event. Project Spirit Equine Rescue and Rehab presents The Pegasus Project. Both groups are 501 © 3 non-profit organizations, and rely on donations and volunteers to keep them operable.
The event is free to the public, and is an annual event. Thank you for your support.
